I'm Filipino. And we're Asians. :)

I think what confuses other people about our ethnicity was the mix/decent that happened throughout the years... Like my mom's of Spanish decent.. while on my father's side, it's Chinese. :D

Not Asian. It may be argued that territorially, although it is an island, it is indeed a part of Southeast Asia. But, in my honest opinion, having lived here in Philippines myself for quite a long while, Filipinos are more inclined to the cultures and psyche of the West. I think that's what people call "whitewashed". :) It is true that the Spanish and the American have colonized the Philippines for 381 years in total, which implies that we have been shunned from our Filipino, Asian ways, there is a thing called Post-colonialism, which implies that they may have left our lands and supposedly set us free but their influences are consistently growing among Filipinos, and through the help of the inevitable globalization, I dare to argue that there's no way that this western-ish country will turn into a real eastern one any day now.

I'm a Filipino too, and i considered that Philippines is part of Asia,we are belong to South East Asia composing Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia,Myanmar.! Mixed blood though but we are truly Asians. You should do some search before you post something that we Filipinos are not Asians.

filipinos are mixed asians bec of the colonizers way bck...but nowadays most of the filipinos are not asian anymore; hence they consider themselves as d westerns

Holla..I am proud to be a Filipino..Philippines - is it Asia? Hell yah...Philippines is one of the countries in Southeast Asia.. FYI, Philippines was colonized by three countries (Spain,USA, and Japan). An improtant impact of Spain to our country is religion, food, etc. USA (education, politics, transportation, etc), and Japan made our natives to be strong and to fight for their rights. Well, just wanna share that info to u guys.. =)

Before answering your question, I'd like to make things clear first.
By Asia - you would mean the continent where Philippines can be found, right?. So by that we could say we are part of Asia not because we claim to be part of Asia but because it is what people impose upon us. People named the continent Asia and the Philippines can be found there. Being part of Asia - it could be safe to assume that we are Asians. The reason we claim to be Asian is because our location is in Asia. Its not a matter of culture or heritage but a matter of geographical location in the world. It would be ridiculous if we call ourselves westerner because of our culture yet we are in the eastern part of the globe and all the other countries surrounding the place are called Asian countries. It won't sound right if we did that.
I think the question for this should be like >>> Are Filipinos more inclined on the Malayan culture or on the Western culture?
